FinNode China Newsletter 4/2011 September, 2011

Breaking News:

The new FinNode webpages were opened over the Summer at www.finnode.fi

The new FinNode pages give a very good overview of the FinNode Network’s key activities and also specific information on all 5 FinNode countries. You can e.g. find summaries of all our FinNode projects and key info about past and coming Future Sessions. Please visit our new pages to see what’s available and feel free to share news, updates and comments that you would like us to post on the FinNode China section.

1. FinNode Innovation Watch & TrendWiki

We had a quite successful start for our new Innovation Watch process in the Spring and collected over 60 signals into Trendwiki. Unfortunately the signals collection process has been quite slow over the Summer. We now need to improve this quickly as the Sense Making Sessions and Project preparation stage is soon approaching.

All 2010 and 2011 FinNode project summaries can be found at http://www.finnode.fi/en/china/projects

3. FinNode Future Sessions

The old Signal Session name was changed into FinNode Future Sessions to avoid confusion with other similar names being used in Finland. We are happy that our first FinNode China specific Future Session was held last Friday with the topic “Future Nanotech Opportunities in China”. The videolink to Finland worked very well and the Future Session attracted over 40 Finnish Nanotech experts to join in from different locations in Finland. Summary of the session can be found at http://signaalit.finnode.fi/events/show/584/3109/Future_Nanotechnology_Business_Opportunities_in_Ch

Our next FinNode China Future Session takes place on October 14th and is called “Entertaining China”. It’s based on our FinNode project which is ongoing.

We look forward to soon being able to use the videoconferencing equipment at our Beijing Embassy and the new equipment which should soon be installed at the Shanghai Consulate General.

You are always welcome to join the Future Sessions and will find more detailed info at http://signaalit.finnode.fi/events/show/584/3145/Entertaining_China_%2528Webcasting%2529

4. The 12th China Five Year Plan

The FinNode China cooperation project focusing on the 12th China Five Year Plan was a big success. The two seminars arranged in May in Finland were joined by over 200 participants. It was also agreed that a FinNode China annual seminar will be held each Spring in Finland. The preparations for next year have already started and the working title for the event is “IPR and trademark strategies in China”

You can find all the final reports about the 12th China Five Year Plan project from http://www.finnode.fi/en/china/news/news_archive/?294_m=295

5. Sister City Cooperation Guidelines

The Sister City cooperation guidelines letter was sent out by our Embassy in Beijing before the Summer it was distributed widely to all key parties active in Sister City Cooperation. These guidelines have received a lot of positive feedback from the Finnish cities. The Embassy and our Consulates will continue to try to develop the existing Sister City relationships into wider national level Finnish platforms to be able to reach more results from the Finnish side.
