Innovation and cooperation

The five countries where FinNode Network operates are all hugely important when thinking about innovation in the past, today and in the future.

Innovation is a knowledge-based competitive edge used to the benefit of business, society and well-being. It is measured with a big number of different metrics. Education, academic research, industrial research and development, as well as straight business, are all part of the innovation equation.

Finland is a strong innovation nation in many of the international comparisons. World Economic Forum's Innovation Index had Finland as the #3 country in their last evaluation. USA was #1 and Switzerland #2. Comparison of academic papers shows again USA in the leading position and Finland as the origin of 1% of the papers. International patent filings under WIPO's (World Intellectual Property Organization) Patent Cooperation Treaty increased almost 5% last year into the total of 192 900. China saw the growth of 56%. USA is in the lead with 44 855 international applications. Japan is in the second place with 32 156 and Finland is the 13th with 2076 filings.

The five countries where FinNode operates, in addition to Finland, have a combined population of around 3 billion representing a great snapshot of global potential user base and needs we have on this Earth. We need to cross boundaries of market segments, individual organisations, countries and local circumstances to find together solutions to the most important problems globally. Let’s find ways to cooperate in innovation!
