Housing and Communications Minister, Ms Krista Kiuru visited the United States West Coast on 9-17 January, 2012
During the west coast visit, Minister Krista Kiuru got to know more about San Francisco and Berkeley area’s urban environmental policy and energy solutions as well as Stanford and Berkeley universities’ research in sustainable building.
In addition to her west coast visit, Kiuru became familiar with local wood construction in Seattle and visits construction project sites which are the LEED certified by environmental rating system.
The itinerary also included visits to Finnish companies in Silicon Valley, and Cisco, Google and Microsoft campuses.
Minister Kiuru also spoke at International Empowerment through Learning in a Global World Conference held at Stanford. The Conference was organized by University of Helsinki, coordinated by CICERO Learning Network, Stanford University, H-STAR Institute and the Consulate General of Finland in Los Angeles. The purpose of the conference was to promote Finnish-American cooperation which aims to develop a high level of training and skills for the future in both countries.
