FinNode China, Embedded System and Application Development
Finnish software companies have generally speaking a strong software competence asset base, but they tend to face problems in finding new application areas with high growth prospects. One such example is the wireless domain expertise of many Finnish companies. There are some success cases where the wireless expertise has been utilized in new end application areas such as in machinery industry (ref. recent project for Embedded Software in Machinery Application implemented by Finpro and a number of Finnish companies for Finnish Federation of Industries). Finnish companies need, however, increased understanding of markets and market mechanisms in order to be able to sustain their competence asset base in embedded software and enable the needed growth for the sector.
China’s economic development and strenght has not been a surprise to anyone. What has been somewhat unexpected, is the fast movement in China’s technology development as well as adaption rate of the same. Chinese companies have been quick to adapt new innovations and solutions to enhance their competitiveness both in the domestic as well as international markets. In certain cases foreign players have gone to China to learn from their innovative business models and earning logics in order to utilize them back at home.
Embedded system and applicaton development has been no exception in China’s growth. It has been fast in recent years in telecom, automobile, healthcare, information appliance, and manufacturing industry. Also 3C (telecommunications, Internet, TV) convergence creates new business opportunities for fast growing embedded market. Governmental support has always played a crucial role in the business environment in China and so is the case with embedded software.
The goal of the project is to help Finnish companies understand current situation and development trends in several segements of embedded systems and applications and to identify the business opportunities in them. This Finnode DuO project will analyze current market situation, key players in China, future development trends, and potential business opportunities. It will also draw upon conclusions of related projects.
Relevant Finnish parties: Ubicom (especially Artemins), Verso, Oske (ubiquitous), TIVIT
The major goal of the project is to analyse ongoing trends, adoption, and weak signals in Chinese embedded market and to draw conclusions and foresight concerning the future of embedded system and application development in the two countries. Especially identify key opportunities (immediate and future) for Finnish companies to fulfil local needs in China and to understand partnering opportunities.
